In Chinatown Today
Saturday, May 23rd, 2009Went to Chinatown to buy some Chinese Zodiac seals today and am so thrilled with them as I have been looking high and low for them. I love Chinatown. It has such amazing cuisine for extremely cheap prices US$1.92 for an adult sized portion of food. We caught up with J and C’s teacher, Min and met her boyfriend, Jerry. It was really good to see her.
However, everytime I am there, I cannot resist taking photos of the buildings, they are so colourful! They are not good pictures, I know, I wish I knew how to take good angles on buildings. It is a bit restrictive with all the distraction around.
The boys were tired and grumpy but I managed to take three photos.
My boys’ fervent admirer, Miss Min. She always thinks they are such angels and sweethearts. She doesn’t live with them, that’s why but the boys like being spoilt by her!
Studio Shot
Saturday, May 23rd, 2009I am posting up more of the shots taken the other day of the Mother’s Day promotion at the Studio Loft. Bit of background - Maryann, myself and Candida were partners in The Studio Loft back in 2006 and after a few months, J was having trouble settling in kindergarten, plus I wanted to work more from home so I pulled out of the partnership as they wanted a full time photographer in the shop. It proved to be a blessing because I had to pull J out of his school to homeschool him for almost 8 months before he gained entry to another school. Since then, Studio Loft has grown from strength to strength under Maryann’s hard work.
I love this shot below of C laughing. I was tickling him to get him to laugh.
Another one with a different background.
This is the strange one. I like the jumping shots because it catches motion but I was dressed too “demurely” - I think it would have been better if I were in jeans. I look really schtupid here! However, I do like the photos, they are well taken. I wish I could go back and get another one done with Matt in it. Nevermind, there is always next time!
Photo Session
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009The Studio Loft had a Mother’s Day promotion and she took some gorgeous pictures of me with the boys. Matt wasn’t there so we didn’t have his photo in any of the pictures.
Anyway, one of the things I appreciate about Maryann is that she is very creative. She created this magazine cover as part of the promotion. Every mother who buys this package will get the “magazine cover” done up for her!
It makes me want to go back to photography again but running a studio is hard work. Dealing with clients, be they difficult or not is not my cup of tea. I would rather just do something for the pleasure of it, rather than to meet deadlines and expectations.
More photos to come later as they are in my other computer and I have to resize them!
Bought A New Toy
Thursday, April 30th, 2009MICA Building
Thursday, March 19th, 2009After Jeanne commented on my photos last fortnight, I have been taking a lot more interest in the buildings around me. However, after reading a book on creative photography two days ago, I went through my old photos from the days where I used to take pains with my photography.
I realised, to my delight, that I seem to have taken many photos of buildings. Subconsciously, I have always been interested in the lines, colours and architectural shape of them. I never thought of buildings as works of art, but that is what a lot of them strive to be. I mean, who would want to just build an ugly building?
Anyway, this is one of my favourite buildings in Singapore - the MICA building at it is most apt that it is housing some art galleries there. It used to be a police station, dull and gray. It is amazing what a new coat of paint can do.
