The Top 10 Peculiar Restaurants In The World

The other night while I was tucking James into bed, he suddenly asked me about all the romantic stuff and about sex. I was like…”This should be Matt’s job…where is he?”
So I decided to tell him like it was and it got a little embarrassing to say the least. I am not shy about talking about sex with my kids but when James started asking more intimate details, I found myself stammering for answers.
Here are some of his questions:
“Who goes on top?”
“What happens after the man gets inside? How does he move back and forth?”
“Why would people want to have sex?”
And finally,
“Can I watch you and Dad at it?” To which he got a resounding “NO!” but I explained that this was a private act. Sheesh… where is that book of mine that explains it all?
One of our cell group friends, invited us to their place for brunch after church one Sunday. The man of the house, B, is a doctor with the US Navy and he was in charge whole operation of sending US navy ships to aid Haiti during the recent earthquake - he and his family are the most humble people we know. His wife made an effort to make sure we were all ok, invited us over many times and showed us great hospitality. She home schools her kids and is a great inspiration to us as a family. I had to share this because it gives you the background on what is about to happen.
So here we were, seated around her kitchen island. Cameron brought his toy over to their house to share with the kids and the husband asked C a few questions:
These were his toys. C had only brought one with him.
B: So what’s his name?
C: Starfy.
B: He hasn’t got a mouth. How does he talk?
C: (looks at him for a minute) Um…he doesn’t talk. He’s just a toy.
And walks off!
It was really comical to watch our dear friend’s expression and he was nodding his head, saying, “Yeah! OK!”
Today at karate, the teacher started a new social lesson called, “Stranger Danger.” He asked the class what they understood by the word “Stranger.” Few of the children gave the standard answers - and then Cameron was the last. His answer was lengthy.
“A stranger is a person who offers you candy and then asks you to go to their house and then they will kill you!”
Two mothers seated in front of me turned around to look at me incredulously. I seriously don’t know what their problem was, I thought it was a good answer!
Once a week, Cameron has to write his thought on topics that are taught by his teacher. I had been helping him out with the spelling but yesterday, I was told by Cameron that his teacher called out a number of students’ names. Apparently parents are not supposed to help them with spelling words!
Yesterday, he worked on his homework. It was his thoughts on Martin Luther King Jr, in memory of his death, which was a public holiday on Monday.
I looked at it and he had written about how he would like to improve the world. He said he wanted to stop global warming. I swelled with happiness that my boy was so environmentally conscious.
Then I noticed his labels on the continents and oceans of the earth that he had drawn:
Notice where I had the arrow inserted? He had written “Saresy” for “Sarsi.”
“Saresy?” I asked him, not understanding.
“Sar-sea. It’s a sea, isn’t it?”
Time to bring out the Geography books!
We had some guests for lunch yesterday and our fridge was full so we popped the drinks out in the deck. In 30 mins, they were cold and stuck on the ice. The boys had to kick them in order to collect them!
It is very windy and cold today, out there it is:
but there is a wind warning, and the wind sounds like a train passing! With the windchill, it is about -15 deg outside! When we were at church, people were running to get inside the building, it was so cold that it hurt. I am enjoying the weather, strangely enough!
James went down to our basement while I was cooking yesterday and he came up with a question on his mind. Apparently he had been looking through some photos of our wedding and he wanted to know why was there so many pictures of Matt and I kissing. Admittedly, I am very Asian in showing my affections publicly, the most we ever do is hold hands in front of the boys and the occassional peck on the lips when Matt leaves for work or comes back.
Smiling, I said, “Why do you ask? It is perfectly normal for people in love to kiss.”
He said, “Don’t you think it is a little..off?”
I laughed and said no. “When you meet a girl you like, you’d be kissing her too!”
He stormed off, with the parting shot, “Disgusting!”
I was spelling something aloud for Cameron last week and it was “zipper”.
I started with a “Z…” (Pronounced the English way “zed”)
Puzzled, he looked at me. “What is that?”
Equally confused, I said, “Z” (zed)
C: Huh? What is zed?
Me: Oh! Sorry, I meant “Zee”.
He got it then!
I told James that Obama was in Singapore for a visit to meet leaders of the world.
Excitedly, he said, “I wonder what he will think of the Mee Soto! He will surely like it!”
This morning, I am glad to say that we are all feeling a lot better, but the boys are at home another day because of their coughing. The school sends the kids home, even with a hint of any of the swine flu symptoms. I guess they will be missing out on Halloween all together. Shame.
The first thing I did was to apologise to C for my yelling. I asked him to forgive me and he paused for a long time. I did not know if he had heard me. Then he said, “You know how in the old days when people sinned and said sorry? They killed an animal and gave it to God as a present? Well, I don’t want you to kill anything but I would like a present or some reward.” He doesn’t miss a beat!
