Moving!

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Today the house settles. We hope there will be no problems as on Wednesday, the sellers moved out and as it was so hot, about 40 deg C, their truck damaged the driveway and it looks like there might be over $500 of damage.  They are only offering to pay $200-$300 but I have a very good real estate agent so they are going to sort it out.

Aside from that, our current place is almost ready to go. I have been packing over the last 2 months, slowly and with no type of plan or thought.  I hope everything gets there without being broken! We kept all our boxes from our move from Singapore and it was a good thing because here, you have to buy boxes at US$3-5 each.

Here is what our house looks like now:

The kitchen.  See how much it needs an updating?

The living room.

The basement. Well, the basement has always looked like that because I never really unpacked from Singapore as we knew we’d be out of here by the end of the lease.

Our landlady has been here almost everyday and yesterday she said she was bringing over a man to get a quote on the carpet to replace it. In the middle of everything!!! Matt was so furious, he wrote to her a very rude letter to ask her for space so we could get our packing finalized instead of workmen running around. She is panicking because she leaves for a vacation on the 12th July and wanted someone in by the end of the month.

We move tomorrow and our internet will be down for 5 days - sometimes I wish that America had the efficiency of Singapore.  I will not be blogging for a week.

Trendy Rain Boots

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

As it rains quite often here, I have been thinking about getting a pair of gumboots or rain boots as they call it here.  When we first got here, I saw many women wearing them with their day to day clothes, going to the supermarket, going to work, everywhere, just like the Ugg boots.  Kids wear them to school as well, and change into their regular shoes once they get there.

The boots here are unlike the ones that we wear in Australia, unless things have changed drastically since then, as we have not been back to live for over 13 years.  They are usually very bright, calling to attention and people do not seem to be trying to match them with what they are wearing. I suppose it is only temporary until they get indoors but they are so very pretty and I have been wanting a pair since one of my leather pairs became ruined from all the rain.  However, they are usually in the price range of over US$60 and I find it hard to justify getting them - after all, they are only made of rubber or plastic!

This time around, I noticed that they are on sale!

Burberry rain boots - $225 and Hunter Women’s Original Rain Boots $125.

Lime White Novel Dot Rain by Target $24 and Nature Breeze CB Rain Blue $22. I love the pointed toe front and the heels of this one.

Jimmy Choo also has them! $425.00

These are the ones I have settled on:

Nature Breeze Geisha Rain Boots for $22.00! I love the little geisha girls on them!

I am not getting paid to talk about these boots - though I wish I were!
